Shared Space

Shared Space

Shared Space is an innovative approach for the design and lay-out of public spaces that minimises the segregation between modes of road users. This is done by removing features such as kerbs, road surface markings, traffic signs, and traffic lights. By creating a greater sense of uncertainty and making it unclear who has priority, drivers will reduce their speed, in turn reducing the dominance of vehicles and improving traffic and spatial quality. Knowledge center Shared Space works on research, knowledge transfer and consultancy for safe, attractive and functional public spaces based on the concept of Shared Space.
